Parkinson’s disease

Among the neuropsychiatric diseases in old people, Parkinson’s disease attracts a special attention by severity of its duration, insufficiency of studying, difficulties in effective diagnosis and imperfectness of methods of treatment.

The Institute of gerontology of AMS in Ukraine is a center on studying Parkinson’s disease in Ukraine. The works of its stuff are dedicated to the deep research of the mechanisms of pathogenesis of parkinsonism, ethiology, epidemiology, clinic, compensatory process in parkinsonism, searches of the effective therapy of disease. The numerous researches, dedicated to the problem of Parkinson’s disease are being made in the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of the Clinical and Experimental Neurology and Psychiatry as well as in Kharkov State Medical University.

The works of the Ukrainian scientists contribute to the modern parkinsonology and propose the basis for the valuable and perspective ways for solving problems of Parkinson’s disease. Unfortunately the drugs applied in the treatment of this disease do not prevent progressive degeneration of the neurons in substance nigra. The insufficiency of the effectiveness of these drugs makes look for more effective combinations of drugs, which can stop parkinsonic symptoms and reduce side effects of the antiparkinsonic drugs, causing psychotic disturbances. It especially concerns old persons, who have cognitive disturbances, dementia and cerebrovascular diseases. Due to this one should pay special attention to the drugs having anti-oxidant properties to extract free radicals and to influence metabolism of cholesterol positively.

This therapeutic method promotes effectiveness of antiparkinsonic means and alleviates causing parkinsonic symptoms. The complex way for developing specialized Web-site in Internet allows to use interactive possibilities for the active attracting the more number of users to the simultaneous work for accumulation of data on this problem, developing new perspective researches and making their results in use.
