Letter of Support

The problem of Alzheimer's disease attracts much attention in the whole world. One of the main purposes is to find the methods of therapeutic treatment. During the recent two decades the intensity of scientific research devoted to pharmacological treatment of the disease has increased. Rapid development in the field of the brain biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology contributes greatly to it. The variety of neurochemical, neuropathological and genetic characteristics promoted the hypothesis that Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative polyetiological syndrome with numerous disturbances. The character of etiological and pathogenetic features of the disease suggests the idea that the therapeutic strategy in this case can be preventive, symptomatic or stabilizing the course of the disease. It is believed that new therapeutic techniques based on potential preventive approaches or interventions on the molecular level can be discovered in future.

Taking into account the main role of neurotransmitter action in Alzheimer's disease it is necessary to emphasize the importance of the search for accompanying types of preventive and stabilizing therapy that produce modifying effect on the main pathogenetic mechanisms of the disease.

Taking into consideration a favourable effect of unithiol on secondary amyloidosis as well as its antioxidant and antidote effect it offers unquestionable interest to use this preparation in Alzheimer's disease.

Besides unithiol presented itself in a good light in geriatric practice of the Institute of Gerontology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

In connection with the above your suggestion is important and deserves the attention of the specialists from both theoretical and practical point of view.
